Bergeron, Cox Named B45 Players Of The Month

DURHAM, NC - PA-Sportsticker, the official statistician of the Can-Am League, has selected Ottawa Rapidz INF Jabe Bergeron and Atlantic City Surf LHP Adam Cox as the July B45 Batter and Pitcher of the Month.

In 25 games, Bergeron batted .418 with five home runs, 19 RBI and 41 hits. The two-time Player of the Week also collected 15 doubles, scored 26 runs, slugged .724 and had an on-base percentage of .478. The native of Keene, NH is having quite a season thus far hitting .389 with eight home runs, 43 RBI and 91 hits. He is currently in the top three in seven different offensive categories in the Can-Am League. Bergeron is first in batting average and on-base percentage (.458), tied for first in doubles (23), second in runs scored (57), tied for second in hits and slugging percentage (.598) and tied for third in extra base hits (32).

The 26-year-old was a non-drafted signee of the New York Mets in June of 2004. He spent a little over a season in the Mets system before joining Elmira of the Can-Am League in 2005. Bergeron spent the 2006 season with Nashua and Worcester and in 2007 with Sussex.

Cox went a perfect 4-0 with a 1.11 ERA in six starts for Atlantic City. In 40 2/3 innings pitched, the southpaw allowed five earned runs, 28 hits and 12 walks while striking out 48 batters. The Thomasville, GA resident is currently 7-2 with an earned run average of 2.12. He has accumulated 96 strikeouts in 89 innings pitched and held opponents to a batting average of only .222. Cox is first in the league in strikeouts and third in ERA.

The 28-year-old was selected by the Cleveland Indians organization in the fourth round out of Darton (Ga.) College. Cox played the 2000 and 2002 seasons in the Cleveland farm system, but was sidelined due to injuries in 2001 and 2003. In 2007, Cox went 12-2 with a 2.38 ERA for Alexandria of the United League, before being sold to the Boston Red Sox, where he spent the month of August with Single-A Lancaster of the California League.
