
Kannapolis Wins See-Saw Battle, 10-6, In Game Two

Salisbury, Md. - The Kannapolis Intimidators (4-1) hit two home runs and scored four runs in the seventh inning en route to a 10-6 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds (3-3) on Tuesday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The Intimidators have secured at least a series split. The Shorebirds 7-9 hitters (Ty Kelly, Michael Ohlman, Brian Conley) recorded five of the eight hits and four of the six RBIs.
The Intimidators jumped to an early lead in the second inning. Shorebirds starter Tim Berry walked the first three batters of the inning. Trayce Thompson singled home the first run of the inning. A fourth walk of the frame to Ross Wilson brought in the second run. Shorebirds reliever Ryan Palsha then replaced Berry. Three more runs came into score as Kannapolis built a 5-0 lead.
The Shorebirds battled back. Michael Ohlman opened the second with a leadoff single. Brian Conley followed with a sharp double down the right field line. Then, Trent Mummey hit a sacrifice fly to left-center to bring home Ohlman and cut the deficit to 5-1. Mychal Givens followed with a groundout to short to score Conley.
In the fourth, the Shorebirds added two more runs to trim the lead to one. Kieron Pope opened the frame by reaching on a fielding error by Juan Silverio. Kipp Schutz followed with a single to advance Pope to second. After Adam Gaylord reached on a fielder's choice, Ty Kelly doubled to bring home Pope. Two batters later, Conley drew a bases loaded walk to cut the deficit to 5-4.
The Shorebirds took their first lead of the night in the fifth inning. Pope and Schutz opened the inning with back-to-back singles. After Gaylord drew a walk, Ty Kelly hit a sacrifice fly to left field to tie the game at 5-5. Michael Ohlman, who had his first multi-hit game of the season, singled up the middle to bring home Schutz, which gave the âBirds a 6-5 edge.
Kannapolis regained the lead in the seventh inning. Juan Silverio and Kyle Eveland each hit two-run home runs to give Kannapolis a 9-6 lead.
They tacked on another run in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly to right field Silverio.
Paul Burnside earned the win in 4.2 innings of relief. He allowed just two hits and no runs. The right-hander also struck out four and did not walk a batter. David Walters took the loss in two innings pitched. He allowed four hits and four runs.
The Shorebirds used five pitchers while the Intimidators used just two. Shorebirds starter Tim Berry lasted only 1.1 innings. He walked six batters.
The Shorebirds and Intimidators play game three of the series on Wednesday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. RHP Luis Noel will make his second start of the season.
