LAKEWOOD, NJ - Yency Almonte gave up one run over six innings and Louis Lechich drove in three runs as Kannapolis topped the BlueClaws 3-1 on Tuesday in the finale of the BlueClaws seven-game homestand.
The BlueClaws, who won four of the first five games on the homestand, dropped the last two and split four with the Intimidators (16-16/51-50). Lakewood fell to 19-13/52-48 with the loss, three games in back of first place West Virginia in the South Atlantic League Northern Division.
The BlueClaws got on the board in the first inning to take the lead. Chase Harris doubled on the first pitch of the bottom of the first inning and came in on a ground-out by Scott Kingery to put Lakewood up 1-0.
Kannapolis broke through in the third inning on a two-run Lechich single to go up 2-1. After that, Ranfi Casimiro bore down and threw scoreless ball through the sixth. However in the seventh, Lechich again delivered, pulling an RBI single into right which scored Michael Suiter to put Kannapolis up 3-1.
Casimiro came out after allowing three runs, two earned on seven hits in 6.2 innings of work. He took the loss to fall to 6-6. Yency Almonte improved to 8-4 and Jose Brito got the last nine outs for his second save of the year.
Herlis Rodriguez and Jose Mayorga each had two hits for the BlueClaws.
The BlueClaws head to West Virginia to open a four-game series on Thursday night. LHP Austin Davis (2-3) starts the opener for the BlueClaws against LHP Stephen Tarpley (7-3).
