Augusta GreenJackets News Release

AUGUSTA, GA: Tuesday night the Augusta GreenJackets 51-50 (18-14) took to the field at Lake Olmstead Stadium for the final time of their seven game homestand. After dropping game three to the Delmarva Shorebirds 51-49 (18-14) on Monday night with a score of nine to five, the GreenJackets were eager to get Tuesday night's contest underway. After a wild first inning, when both teams put up a combined seven runs, the Shorebirds ended on top with a victory of five to four.

The Shorebirds started Tuesday night right where they left off on Monday. They collected three runs off starting pitcher Pat Young in the first inning. After just facing seven batters, allowing two, and three runs Pat Young left the game. Which left the game to a bullpen that put in eight and two thirds innings of work in on Monday night, back on the chopping block for Tuesday night.

Down three runs in the top of the first, the GreenJackets could have easily packed up their bags and put their minds on Wednesday's off day. Instead Nestor Rojas's team dug their cleats into the batters box and came out swinging.

Will Callaway began things off with his fifteenth double of the year. Aramis Garcia followed with a single to move Callaway up ninety feet. After a walk by Skyler Ewing to load the bases, Jonah Arenado hit a base clearing double to left field to tie the game. The three RBI double pushes Arenado over the fifty RBI mark for the season. A batter later, Arenado scored to break the tie on a RBI single by left fielder Andrew Cain. The GreenJackets would end the bottom of the first inning with a score of four to three.

After the Shorebirds loaded the bases in the top of the third inning, Rojas went back to the bullpen and called in right-handed pitcher Dusten Knight (6-1 ERA 1.52) to replace Rodolfo Martinez. TJ Olesczuk was the first batter Knight faced, Knight plunked Oleszuk to allow the Shorebirds to tie the game at four. Next batter Tanner Murphy hit a single to give the Shorebirds the lead at five to four.

After the third inning Dusten Knight settled in on the mound for the GreenJackets. Knight went on to retire ten straight Shorebird batters. Even after finally allowing a runner on first base in the seventh inning, Knight was able to force Cameron Kneeland to ground into an inning ending double play.

With Knight's lights out pitching performance, the GreenJackets were still held scoreless for eight straight innings. Ultimately leading the GreenJackets to take five to four loss on Tuesday night. Delmarva and Augusta will split the four game series.

Tonight's final scoreboard line reads five runs, five hits and zero errors for the Delmarva Shorebirds and four runs, nine hits, and one error for the Augusta GreenJackets. Nick Cunningham takes the relief win, Rodolfo Martinez takes the loss, and Stefan Crichton picks up his fourth save.

The GreenJackets will have Wednesday off before heading to Rome Thursday morning to begin a four game series.
