CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Charleston Rainbows took a brief lead on Bo Thompson's three-run home run in the eighth inning, but Greenville rallied back to tie the game in the ninth and win 5-3 in 15 innings Monday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

In the bottom of the eighth trailing 2-0, Devyn Bolasky and Vince Conde drew back-to-back walks against relief pitcher Mario Alcantara. After Jorge Mateo struck out, Thompson followed with a three-run homer into the palm trees beyond the wall in left-center field, which put the Rainbows in front 3-2 and sent the 4,057 fans into a frenzy.

The Drive tied the game 3-3 in the top of the ninth inning. Angel Rincon entered the game to replace Matt Marsh with runners on the corners with one out. Danny Mars hit an RBI single to center to plate Bryan Hudson.

Both teams went scoreless until the top of the 15th, despite several opportunities to plate a run for each side. With two outs in the frame, Deiner Lopez hit a single, stole second, and scored on another RBI single by Mars. Mars advanced to second on the throw home, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch by Andre Del Bosque (6-5).

Greenville catcher J.T. Watkins retired the RiverDogs in order in the bottom of the 15th to earn his first save. Ryan Harris (1-3) earned his first win of the season by pitching two scoreless innings of relief for the Drive.

Greenville jumped ahead 1-0 on a third inning Michael Chavis home run. The Drive added insurance to their lead to 2-0 with a run in the top of the eighth. Rafael Devers drew a one-out walk, and then Nick Longhi drove him in with a double to center. Longhi went 5-for-7 in the game with three doubles.
