Hickory Completes Sweep with 6-2 Win over Legends

The Hickory Crawdads built an early four-run lead and went on to a 6-2 victory over the Lexington Legends Tuesday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The win completed a four-game series sweep for the Crawdads.

Hickory opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the second inning. Luke Tendler doubled to center field and moved to third as Jairo Beras doubled to right field. Jonathan Meyer walked to load the bases, and Juremi Profar walked, forcing in the game's first run. A wild pitch allowed Beras to score, and the Crawdads had a 2-0 lead.

They added two runs in the third inning on a double by Eduard Pinto, a triple by Edwin Garcia and a run-scoring ground out by Tendler.

The Legends answered with a run in the fourth when Corey Toups singled, stole second base and came home on a single by Lexington native Anderson Miller.

The score remained 4-1 until the eighth inning when Jose Cardona tripled home two runs to give Hickory a 6-1 lead. The Legends added a single run in the eighth when Michael Hill walked, advanced to third on two wild pitches and scored on Wander Franco's ground out.

Hickory starter Tom Gardewine (6-7) got the win. He worked five innings and allowed one run on four hits.

Legends starter Yunior Marte (4-1) suffered his first loss.

The Legends will begin a four-game series in Greenville Thursday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
