Kang and Hughes to Rehab in Indianapolis

Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Pittsburgh Pirates Jung Ho Kang and Jared Hughes will join the Indianapolis Indians on Major League rehab assignments on Monday, April 18, and Tuesday, April 19 respectively.
Kang (pronounced 'GAHNG') finished third in National League Rookie of the Year voting in 2015 despite having his season shorted with a devastating knee injury on September 17 against the Chicago Cubs. Kang and Chris Coghlan collided on a slide at second base during an attempted double play, forcing the then 28 year-old infielder to have his left knee surgically repaired with a likely recovery time of six-to-eight months.
The play was one of the driving forces behind Major League Baseball's rule changes intended to limit the risk of takeout slides.
In his time with the Pirates last season, Kang hit .287 with 15 home runs and 58 RBIs in his first season of Major League Baseball following nine years in Korea's professional baseball league (Korean Baseball Organization/KBO).
Hughes spent time with Indianapolis from 2011-14 and has since become an anchor of the Pittsburgh bullpen. He was summoned in some of the team's most precarious situations, allowing just 16.1 percent of inherited runners to score (4th in NL). He recorded a 1.61 ERA in his final 50 games of 2015. He was limited by a left lat strain in spring training.
