PRINCE GEORGE, BC- The Prince George Cougars had their five-game win streak come to an end on Saturday, after a 4-1 loss to the Kamloops Blazers at the CN Centre.
The Cougars' only goal came from forward Riley Heidt in the first period. Goaltender Taylor Gauthier was admirable in defeat, as he stopped 45 shots, including 21 in the second period.
Matthew Seminoff paced the Blazers' attack, as he had three points (1g-2a) and was named the game's first star. Connor Levis, Ethan Brandwood, and Reese Belton also scored for the visitors. Kamloops' goaltender Dylan Garand picked up his seventh win, stopping 27 of 28 shots.
In the first, Levis opened the scoring for Kamloops, as he potted his second of the season at 6:04. Prince George answered back late in the opening period courtesy of Heidt.
Liekit Reichle found Heidt out front, and he fired his backhand past Garand at 18:12, as his third goal of the season sent the two teams to the dressing room tied 1-1 after 20 minutes.
Kamloops kicked it into high gear in the second period, as they outshot Prince George 23-8 and scored twice to go up 3-1. Seminoff put the Blazers back ahead with his power-play goal at 4:27, stuffing the puck past Gauthier at the post. Then, Brandwood put Kamloops up by a pair with his wrist-shot from the blue-line that found its way through traffic at 17:30
The Blazers put the game out of reach with Belton's goal in the third period that made it 4-1 at 2:35.
