Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs couldn't contain the U.S. Division-leading Everett Silvertips on Saturday night at Spokane Arena, losing 4-1. Spokane entered the game with just 10 rostered forwards available due to a rash of recent injuries.
Rookie goalie Manny Panghli made his second-straight start in goal for the Chiefs as fellow netminder Mason Beaupit was unavailable. He held strong in the first period, allowing just one goal on eight shots as second-year pivot Ryan Hofer pushed a rebound opportunity inside the left post.
The Silvertips, who have yet to lose in regulation this season, added on in the second when forward Austin Roest deflected a bouncing puck at 8:36. The lead pushed to three goals just over a minute later when Michal Gut capitalized on a two-on-one chance to beat Panghli on the blocker side.
The Chiefs cut the lead to 3-1 later in the second when Blake Swetlikoff scored his second of the season at 12:15, beating goalie Koen MacInnes short side to avoid the shutout.
Everett capped the scoring late in the third as Gut punched in his second of the night to make it 4-1.
Spokane was outshot 15-29 on the night, going 0-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
The Chiefs and Silvertips will become very familiar over the next two weeks; tonight's game was the first of four-straight head-to-head matchups for Spokane. They'll host the Silvertips again at Spokane Arena on Friday, November 5 and Saturday, November 6.
