Kamloops Blazers News Release
Finally, a chance to do another newsletter. Once again, the busy schedule settles down enough to get a note out to you.
The guys have been playing some pretty good hockey as of late. In their last 6 games, the Blazers are 4-1-1 including wins over Prince George, Everett twice, and Kelowna, a tie against Red Deer, and a loss in Portland.
What all that has meant is the Blazers still sit 3rd in the BC Division, five points back of Vancouver and two ahead of Kootenay
The win on Sunday over Everett clinches a plyoff spot for the club...the 20th straight year the Blazers have made the post season! Not a lot of teams can boast that!
So, the guys have just three games to play: Wednesday versus Seattle, Friday in Prince George and Sunday afternoon at home against the Cougars.
A third place finish means the guys will open in Vancouver on March 19th, while a 4th place finish means the series starts in Kelowna.
There's still an outside chance the Blazers can finish second, but they have to win their last three games, and Vancouver will have to lose all of their remaining games.
The Blazers have one school visit this week...and that's on Tuesday morning at David Thompson Elementary. The guys will be there at 10:30am.
That's our last school visit of the year. Where has the time gone?
With the playoffs a sure thing, make sure to get your playoff tickets soon! We need your support to make this year's post season one to remember.
Get your tickets by calling the Sport Mart Place Box Office at 828-3339.
By the way, if you have already purchased your playoff packages, you can pick them up at the SMP Box Office starting on Wednesday morning.
Keep the date of March 15th open. That's the night of our annual awards banquet at the UCC Grand Hall. Tickets are $30 and they can be purchased at Takin' Care of Business.
It may only be March, but it's time to start thinking about our annual alumni weekend. It'll be held on August 6th and 7th, with the game going on Friday night and the golf tournament on Saturday.
If you want to take part in the golf tourney, call the Blazer office and put your name down. We'll have some more details coming in the very near future.
The Blazer organization, and the Western Canadian hockey community, lost a great man on Saturday.
Scout Dan Evason, known affectionately by everyone as "Heavy", passed away suddenly due to a heart attack suffered during a rec hockey game in his hometown of Brandon, MB.
Heavy was a scout with us since 2001 and was the brother of former Blazer coach and current Vancouver Giant bench boss Dean Evason.
Heavy was also involved with Special Olympics and his work with that movement will also be deeply missed.
Our condolences to the Evason family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
See you in the playoffs!
Kirk
