Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba -- The Western Hockey League's Kamloops Blazers are mourning the loss of scout D.A. (Heavy) Evason, who passed away this weekend at the age of 41.
Evason passed away suddenly Saturday afternoon in his hometown of Brandon, after suffering a heart attack while playing a game of recreational hockey.
Evason, brother to former Blazer head coach and current Vancouver Giant coach Dean Evason, had been a scout for the WHL club since 2001.
In addition to his scouting duties, Evason had been involved for several years with Manitoba Special Olympics.
A former player in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, Evason had also served as head coach of the Neepawa Natives, Portage Terriers and Southeast Blades as well as having been an asistant coach with the Brandon Wheat Kings in the mid eighties.
The Blazers and Wheat Kings pass along their condolences to the Evason family, the hockey community of southwestern manitoba and to Special Olympics.
