Kalamazoo Wings Week In Review
January 16, 2006 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
The K-Wings started the week on Wednesday (1/11) versus the Rockford IceHogs. After a scoreless opening period, Kalamazoo struck midway into the second period with a goal from Tyler Rennette (19) to give the K-Wings a 1-0 lead. Rockford answered back with two goals of their own to take a 2-1 lead. In the third period, Rennette would tie the game at 2-2, when he deflected a Mike Dombkiewicz shot past Rockford's Michel Robinson. The game headed into a shootout; where the IceHogs outscored the K-Wings two goals to none and went on to win the game 3-2.
On Saturday, Kalamazoo concluded their week with a Central Division battle against the Motor City Mechanics. Just like the game prior, Kalamazoo scored the game's first goal, when Tyler Rennette (21) scored with a slap shot from between the circles to give the K-Wings 1-0 first period lead. Kalamazoo extended their lead midway in the opening period with a power play goal from Kory Karlander (14). The Mechanics stormed back with two unanswered goals to tie the game at 2-2. The K-Wings put the game away midway in the second period, as Tyler Willis (12) scored the eventual game-winner for Kalamazoo. Nick Bootland (16,17) added two goals, including a short handed goal to give the K-Wings a 5-2 victory. Rennette lead all K-Wings in scoring with four points (1 goal, 3 assists). The four-point night ties Rennette for the K-Wings season high for most points in a game.
Fast Forward
The K-Wings will hit the ice three times this week, starting Friday night (1/20) at Wings Stadium versus their archrivals the Fort Wayne Komets. Friday night's game, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will be WKFR Craziest Fan Night. The K-Wings are 2-0-0 against the Komets this season, with both previous victories occurring at Wings Stadium.
Kalamazoo will conclude their four-game home stand on Saturday (1/21) versus the two-time defending Colonial Cup Champions the Muskegon Fury. Prior to the 7:30 p.m. face-off, the K-Wings alumni will battle the Muskegon Alumni at 5 p.m., as a fund raiser to benefit the Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund. There will also be an alumni jersey auction following the UHL game. On the season, the K-Wings are 2-2-0 against the Fury.
The K-Wings will end the week on Sunday (1/22) with a trip to Port Huron to battle the Flags. The K-Wings are 3-0-1 against the Flags, including 2-0-1 at the McMorran Place Arena.
