Richmond RiverDogs News Release

January 11, 2006 vs. Port Huron (5-1 W)

The RiverDogs defeat their Michigan opponents in arguably the most convincing win of the season by the score of 5-1. Joey Bastien potted a pair of goals and Dan Vandermeer added three assists. Mike D'Alessandro was 0:28 seconds away from pitching his second shutout of the season, however he did pick up the game's #1 star. The RiverDogs outshot the Flags 35-23, the biggest margin of the season in shots. The 23 shots allowed were the team's best this season. The win snapped the RiverDog's six game winless draught. Attendance: 2,399.

January 13, 2006 vs. Roanoke Valley (4-2 W)

Four different RiverDogs scored and combined in a feisty, snarling and growling affair with cross-state rival Roanoke Valley Vipers with the RiverDogs prevailing 4-2 for the team's second straight win. The RiverDogs got goals from Dan Vandermeer, Mike Oliveira, Cody Doucette's first professional goal and Bobby Kukulka. Kukulka also laid claim to scoring the team's first Gordie Howe Hat Trick with a goal, an assist and a fight. Doucette's goal was also the game winner. The fans were treated to some more exciting hockey, similar to Wednesday night's funfest against Port Huron with plenty of fights and hard hitting. Mike D'Alessandro was, again, named the #1 star of the game with another top-notch performance between the pipes, stopping 25 of 27 Viper shots. As was the game against Port Huron, the RiverDogs outshot the Vipers 35-27. Attendance: 4,025.

January 14, 2006 @ Roanoke Valley (3-1 W)

Mike D'Alessandro was the main man for the RiverDogs as he stonewalled the Vipers for the second straight night as the RiverDogs took it to the Vipers 3-1 for the team's third win in a row. D'Alessandro stopped 43 shots for his third straight #1 Star award. John DiPace got the scoring started for the RiverDogs in the first period but Mike Wiggins tied the score for the Vipers on the power play. Mike Oliveira broke the tie and Warren Cooper nailed the coffin shut with an empty net goal. Attendance: 2,554.
