
Trashers finish unbeaten week, extend division lead

DANBURY, CT-The Danbury Trashers, proud members of the United Hockey League (UHL), will take to the road this week after posting impressive wins over Flint and Port Huron last Friday and Saturday.
Currently the Trashers have won three straight and are unbeaten in regulation over their last four games heading into Wedneday's contest at Roanoke. On Friday the Trashers will play in Elmira and then in Glens Falls against Adirondack on Saturday. Danbury returns home on Sunday night to host Adirondack at 7pm.

DANBURY TRASHERS SCORE AN IMPRESSIVE 6-2 WIN OVER PORT HURON

DANBURY, CT--Four different Trashers had at least two points, while Danbury scored three goals in a 1:43 span during the second period as the Trashers defeated Port Huron 6-2 on Saturday night before 2,539 at the Danbury Ice Arena.
Special teams played a factor in both of Danbury's first period goals as Danny Stewart netted a shorthanded goal at the 5:35 mark of the opening from Fred Belanger and Ryan Barnes. David Hymovitz then scored a power play goal for the second straight night at home as he banged in a one-timer past Scott Hay at 16:10 to give Danbury a 2-0 lead after the first.
Eric Lind took a 4:00 high sticking penalty at the end of the opening period, and Port Huron capitalized with a power play goal by Scott Horvath at the 0:56 mark of the second. It marked one of two power play goals that the Flags would score in the game, both assisted by Aaron Brand.
Dave MacIsaac started the scoring onslaught as he took a drop pass from Barnes for his 8th of the season at the 17:25 mark. Drew Omicioli then netted his 18th of the season just 58 seconds later on a pretty pass from Brad Wingfield in a 2-on-1 rush. Finally at the 19:07 mark, Barnes scored his 3rd of the season, assisted by Troy Smith and Alex Goupil. Goupil also earned an assist on Danbury's 3rd goal of the night.
Brad Mehalko netted Port Huron's other goal at the 4:10 mark of the 3rd, while J.M. Daoust scored his 14th of the season at the 19:24 mark from Hymovitz and Kelly.
Sly Daigle stopped 36 of 38 shots, while Hay stopped 22 of 27 over the first two periods. He was pulled for Jeremy Symington in the final period and he saved 15 of 16 in a relief effort.
TRASHERS DROP FLINT 3-1

DANBURY, CT--David Hymovitz, Ryan Barnes and Drew Omicioli each scored for Danbury, while Sly Daigle stopped 29 shots in his return to the Trashers after missing a week with an injury as the Trashers defeated Flint 3-1 before 2,688 at the Danbury Ice Arena on Friday night.
The Trashers opened the scoring on a power play goal from Hymovitz at the 10:06 mark from Regan Kelly and Troy Smith, while they extended their lead to 2-0 just 1:13 into the second period. Drew Omicioli fired a shot that was deflected in by Barnes for his second of the season, while Eric Lind also earned an assist in his first game with Danbury after signing a PTO earlier in the day.
Omicioli scored his 17th of the season in the third period from Fred Belanger and Shawn Collymore at the 3:20 mark. Flint's Leo Thomas knocked in a rebound for the Generals only goal at the 9:39 mark.
Jason Saal stopped 38 of 41 shots in the loss, while the Trashers increased their lead to six points in the UHL East Division following their second straight win.
