In the middle period, the Mallards took command of the game on a shorthanded goal by Anthony Blumer and a power-play marker by Patrick Nadeau. Blumer's tally came off a shorthanded breakaway and was the 13th of the season for the rookie Mallard. Nadeau's goal, his 11th of the year, was the 197th goal of his pro career. In the third, the Otters battled back on goals by Lars Pettersen and newcomer Joe Seroski. The Mallards were able to withstand the late charge and come away with a one-goal win.
