Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo started their five games in seven nights on Valentine's Night during their 5th Annual Pink Ice Game against the Rockford IceHogs. Kalamazoo used goals from Kevin Kotyluk (19) and Greg Labenski (1) to jump a head of the IceHogs 2-1. Goaltender Chad Alban proved to be the difference maker, stopping 36 of 37 shots that came his way to earn the victory. The blemish on the scoreboard against the K-Wings was a goal from Rockford's J.F. Dufour (17) with one-tenth of a second to play in the game, as the K-Wings defeated the IceHogs 2-1.
The K-Wings continued the week on Wednesday (2/16), with a road game against the Fort Wayne Komets. Kalamazoo dominated from start to finish and their power-play was spectacular going 3 for 6 for the game, as the K-Wings defeated the Komets 6-1. The six-goals tied a season high for Kalamazoo, who has now defeated the Komets in two straight appearances at Memorial Coliseum.
On Friday (2/18), the K-Wings returned home to face-off against the Missouri River Otters. After falling behind 4-1 after one period of play, Kalamazoo stormed back with three unanswered goals to force the game into a shootout. In the extra session, the River Otters would prevail by outscoring the K-Wings 3-1 and going on to win the game by the final of 5-4. Despite losing in the shootout, Kalamazoo's Andrew Luciuk stole the show by tying a K-Wings season high for points in a game with four (2 goals and 2 assists).
The K-Wings offensive assault continued on Saturday (2/19), as Kalamazoo traveled on the road to face-off against the Flint Generals. Kalamazoo jumped out to 3-nothing first period lead and never looked back, as the K-Wings defeated the Generals 5-2. Tim Turner and Andrew Luciuk led the K-Wing attack by recording two points apiece in the victory.
Kalamazoo finished off the week Sunday (2/20) on Mejier Kids and Mascot Day, as the K-Wings hosted the Port Huron Beacons. After a scoreless first period, both teams stepped up the scoring. Port Huron took the lead twice in the period, only to have their lead whiped away with a Mike Manley (7,8) goal. In the third period, the K-Wings exploded with two goals, including the game-winner from Tyson Turgeon (7), as the K-Wings skated past the Beacons 4-2. Kalamazoo's Joel Martin stopped 27 shots to earned his first home victory of the season in five attempts, is now 9-7-0 on the season.
