Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League are proud to announce the 2nd Annual "Spaghetti On Ice" benefit dinner raised over $11,000 cash with all proceeds to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The dinner was served to over 900 people on Sunday afternoon at Perani's Arena and Event Center.
The Generals players served as celebrity waiters, serving dinners and soda on ice skates to all fans seated at ice level at Perani's Arena. Fundraising efforts included ticket sales to the dinner, silent auctions for many gifts provided by local businesses and a live auction for the "Spaghetti on Ice" jerseys worn by the Generals players.
"The Flint Generals are very proud to be associated with the Muscular Dystrophy Association," said Vice President & Head Coach, Robbie S. Nichols. "Hopefully, all the doctors and specialists can find a cure for all neuro-muscular diseases and we wouldn't have to do this again. But if we need to, we will be back to help the M.D.A."
The Flint Generals know that a lot of hard work went in to making this fundraising effort a huge success. "There are so many people that we need to recognize for their efforts leading up to Sunday. The M.D.A. local office has been outstanding to work with and did a tremendous job in putting this together," continued Nichols. "Mr. Bob Roth and the UAW were outstanding in their efforts this season. There were so many vendors and business owners who gave of their time and merchandise to help the fundraising efforts."
Nichols knew the community would be a huge factor on Sunday. "Of course, our great hockey fans step to the forefront once again and show the true commitment of helping your fellow citizens," continued Nichols. "We could not have done this without our friends and fans. Our organization would like to thank the staff and arena workers of Sunshine Management who worked long hours and helped us make this fundraiser one of the best community efforts in recent years."
The Generals are on the road for three games this week (check the Generals web-site at www.flintgenerals.com) before returning home to host the Fort Wayne Komets on Sunday, February 27, 2005 at Perani's Arena at 4:05 p.m. Tickets are on sale at any TicketMaster location.
