November 21, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud members of the United Hockey League, announce that forward Joe Seroski (sir-os-ski), has been selected as the UHL's Sher-Wood Player of the Week, while goaltender Joel Martin was selected as the UHL's Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week for the period ending November 20th.
Seroski had a monstrous week putting up 9 points (6 goals, 3 assists) during the K-Wings perfect 4-0-0 week. Seroski biggest game of the week was yesterday, as the K-Wings defeated the Quad City Mallards. The veteran forward recorded three goals and added an assist in the victory. The hat trick was both Seroski's and the K-Wings second hat trick of the season. The second goal of yesterday's game was Seroski's 200th of his professional career.
By receiving the honor, Seroski becomes the first K-Wing to receive the honor this year and only the sixth K-Wings player in their UHL history to receive the Sher-Wood Player of the Week. Seroski joins current teammate Tim Turner former K-Wings Jim Brown, Guy Dupuis, Yannick Carpentier, and Andrew Luciuk, as the only other players to receive the award.
Like Seroski, Joel Martin had a stellar week. The native of Three Hills, Manitoba went a perfect 2-0-0 for the week, which included a 7-0 shutout victory over the Rockford IceHogs last Wednesday at Wings Stadium. In two games, Martin had a 1.00 goals against average and stopped 52 of the 54 shots he faced.
Martin starts the week to the top of the UHL lead in both Goals Against Average (1.20) and Save Percentage (0.959).
The Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week Award is the first earned by Martin in his UHL career and the ninth collected by a K-Wings goaltender in the team's UHL history.
The K-Wings will start a three-game road swing and a four-game week this Wednesday, November 23rd against the Flint Generals.
The K-Wings will return home this Sunday, November 27th at 4:00 p.m., when they host the Flint Generals on Harry Potter Night presented by WKFR and Celebration Cinema.
