November 21, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release

LAST WEEK'S GAMES:

The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), lost two tough matches on the road on Friday and Saturday, November 18th and 19th to the Kalamazoo Wings and the Port Huron Flags. The K-Wings took a 4-2 win over the Vipers on Friday night after Roanoke held the lead for most of the first two periods of play, not surrendering the lead until the 8:35 mark of the third period. On Saturday, the Vipers took a 4-2 lead into the third period with the help of a hat trick from Josh Tataryn, but the defense collapsed, allowing three unanswered goals in the final period of play as the Vipers lost by a score of 5-4.

Petr Jelinek and David Beauregard each scored goals for the Vipers on Friday, but Roanoke could not hang onto the lead as the Wings scored three unanswered goals beginning at 17:06 of the second period. Beauregard and Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week Alex Jerofejevs were credited with assists on Jelinek's goal. Goaltender Jamie Hodson recorded 33 saves in front of the net for the Vipers, while suffering the loss.

Saturday, November 19th at Port Huron

Vipers left wing Josh Tataryn scored a hat trick Saturday against the Flags on goals coming at the 10:16 mark of the first period and at the 5:05 and 15:05 marks of the second period. Goal number one was unassisted, and rookies L.P. Martin and Matt Miller had the assists on the second and third goals. With a 4-2 lead going into the third period, it seemed as though the Vipers had the win in the bag. The Flags caught them by surprise, however, cutting the lead to one goal on a Jarrett Cameron goal just under six minutes into the third period, and then scoring the game-tier and game-winner with just 3:07 left to play on the clock. Netminder Shawn Conschafter got the start in goal, but was replaced for the second and third periods by Jamie Hodson after he was involved in a collision with Jan Jas.

THIS WEEK'S GAMES:

The Vipers play four games in five days over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, beginning at home on Wednesday, November 23rd at 7:05p.m. against the Elmira Jackals. The Vipers have become quite familiar with the Jackals of late, having played three games against them in the past four weeks, coming out of it with a 2-1-0 record. They will follow Elmira home to New York for a Friday night matchup at 7:05p.m. before heading back down the road to Richmond for a game on Saturday night at 7:30p.m. against their division rivals. Richmond will then turn around and follow the Vipers back to Roanoke for a Sunday afternoon game at the Roanoke Civic Center at 5:05p.m.

-The Vipers, who coming into the weekend had allowed only five third-period goals and had scored 11 themselves (over 10 games played), had two tough third periods during their weekend road trip to Michigan.
