Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings of the United Hockey League announced they received 560 teddy bears and 70 coats during the Fifth Annual Teddy Bear Toss and first-ever Coat Drive Game sponsored by WOTV and WKFR last Saturday night against Richmond RiverDogs.

A majority of the bears were picked up by the Salvation Army and will be delivered to many needy children through southwest Michigan.

The remainder of the stuffed animals were distributed this afternoon to Bronson Hospital's Pediatric Unit, where K-Wings' Tyler Willis, Tyson Turgeon, David Sturch, and Joel Martin were joined by the K-Wings zany mascot Slappy and Santa Claus. The K-Wings and Old Saint Nick brought their holiday spirit for over two hours to children at the hospital.

The 70 coats that were collected Saturday have been distributed to the Open Door Shelter of Kalamazoo.

The Wings Stadium Complex and the Kalamazoo Wings would like to thank all of those who helped the children and adults with their kind donations.

The K-Wings would also like to remind fans that there are two more opportunities during this festive week to see their hometown team.

Tomorrow night the K-Wings host the Quad City Mallards at 7 p.m. On Sunday, the K-Wings will host the Rockford IceHogs at 4 p.m. Tickets for both games are on sale at the Wings Stadium Box Office.
