December 21, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) News Release
LAKE ST. LOUIS â The Elmira Jackals and Danbury Trashers, along with goaltenders Greg Hewitt and Scott Stirling set a United Hockey League record Friday night with a twenty-one round shootout. Forty-two attempts were made but only five shooters were successful. Elmira's Jason Sessa scored in the first round but was leveled by Danbury's Bruce Richardson's goal in the third. The next eleven rounds went without a goal. In the fifteenth round, Elmira's George Pujacs netted a 2-1 lead but Danbury's Blake Bellefeuille scored shortly thereafter to tie. Hewitt and Stirling turned away the next nine attempts. It was Danbury's Mike Bayrack who ended the marathon in the 21st round to register the 6-5 win over Elmira.
Between the pipes, Danbury's Scott Stirling stopped 19-of-24 in regulation, and 19-of-21 in the shootout for the win; Elmira's Greg Hewitt made 43 saves on 48 shots, 18-of-21 in the extra session.
Kevin Kerr Returns to the Ice Flint left wing Kevin Kerr is only two goals from establishing a new record for goals scored in all minor league professional hockey. Kerr is the all-time point leader for the Generals with 348 goals, 307 assists for 655 points. Scott Gruhl, the current record holder, is a former IHL-er with 663 goals. Kerr will attempt to break the record in his first appearance of the season on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 against the Muskegon Fury at Perani Arena at 7:05 p.m.
Adirondack Frostbite - (1-0-1) â Derek Gustafson picked up his 100th professional win Friday night in the 2-0 victory over Flint. He is one win shy of fourth place on the Adirondack all- wins list and two away from moving into third...Right wing Frank Littlejohn is one point shy of 250 on his professional career...The Frostbite are 13-3-3 since the first of November and unbeaten when scoring five or more goals in regulation (7-0-1)...Adirondack has two shorthanded goals this season and both have been scored by rookie left wing Ryan Bennett...The Frostbite are 5-0-1 against the Jackals this season and 6-1-2 against the Central Division.
Danbury Trashers - (2-0-0) â Scott Stirling extended his unbeaten streak to fourteen games (13-0-1), with eleven straight wins after this weekend...Forward Mike Bayrack leads Danbury with five two-goal games this season...The Trashers have yet to record a hat trick from any individual this season...Four of Danbury's ten wins during the month of December were in shootouts, including a UHL record 21-round shootout on December 17th against Elmira...Defenseman Nicolas Bilotto is the only Trasher to have played in all thirty games this season...Defenseman J.F. David was called up to the AHL's Hershey Bears on December 18th. At the time of his call-up, David had four goals and ten assists, with a plus-nine for the Trashers.
Elmira Jackals - (1-0-2) â Right wing Jason Sessa scored three goals this week, moving him up to third in the UHL in goals (18). Sessa also leads the league with ten power play goals in twenty-eight games played...The Elmira Jackals are one of three teams in the UHL this season to score 100 goals or more. The Jackals scored their 100th goal of the season Sunday on an Eddy Lowe shorthanded goal against Flint...The Jackals have recorded 110 goals through 32 games.
Flint Generals - (1-1-1) â Left wing Bobby Reynolds' ten-game point-scoring streak and Right wing Jim Duhart's four-game goal-scoring streak ended at Adirondack on Friday night...Center John DiPace had his first three-point night (2g, 1a) in Saturday's 6-5 shootout victory at Adirondack...Flint's five-goal first period at Adirondack on Saturday, was their highest twenty minute output of the season...Flint is 10-0 when scoring four goals or more, and 5-9-3 when scoring three goals or less.
Fort Wayne Komets - (1-1-1) â On Friday, left wing Sean Venedam registered his first four-goal, five-point game as a Komet...Center Colin Chaulk posted his first five-assist and five-point Komet game, and right wing Jonathon Goodwin his first career hat trick and five-point game on Friday.
Kalamazoo Wings - (1-2-1) â Right wing Tyler Willis recorded his 200th career point on Wednesday at Wings Stadium versus Richmond. Willis has scored five goals in his last five games and has amassed eight points in his last six games...Rookie forward Mike Manley has recorded five points in his last two games, including his first professional goal last Saturday versus Richmond...K-Wings are 8-1-2 when they lead after the second period...K-Wings are 4-1-3 in games decided by one goal...Recently acquired forward Tim Krueckl has netted two goals in two games with Kalamazoo...K-Wings are 8-6-3 in games outside their division.
Kansas City Outlaws - (1-1-1) â The Kansas City Outlaws picked up three points this past week with a win over the defending Colonial Cup Champions Muskegon Fury and a shootout loss against the Motor City Mechanics on Friday. Maxime Gingras stopped 67 of 71 shots faced posting a goals against average of 2.01 for the week.
Missouri River Otters - (2-1-0) âThe River Otters only have one loss in their last ten games... Rookie left wing Mark Odut is second among UHL rookies with twelve goals...The River Otters have out-scored their opponents 34-16 in the second period...The River Otters lead the league in fewest goals allowed per game, with a 2.30 average...Center Chris Bell is currently on a five-game assist streak, tied for the longest current streak in the league.
Motor City Mechanics - (3-1-0) â This week the Mechanics reached several milestones: Their first road win, forward Joe Burton's 1,000th career point against Kansas City on Friday, and three consecutive wins...On Saturday versus the River Otters, Cory Campbell made 27 saves in net for his first win as a Mechanic...Center David Bonk leads the Mechanics in the month of December with five points (2g, 3a) in seven games played...Forward Chad Peck scored three goals in four games (one power play, one shorthanded)...Left wing Jeff Goldie scored two power play goals and notched two assists in four games played.
Muskegon Fury - (3-0-1) â With 524 Fury career games played, right wing Robin Bouchard has moved into second place on the Muskegon's all-time career games played list...Brant Blackned's power play goal on Wednesday was his 118th Fury career goal to move him into third place on the all-time for Muskegon...Muskegon holds the league's second best home record (11-2-2), out-scoring the visitors 61-34...The Fury's top-plus players are defenseman Jordan Flodell (plus-eleven), defenseman Dave Van Drunen (plus-ten) and center Jeff Nelson (plus-ten).
Port Huron Beacons â (3-1-0)â Kory Cooper has two shutouts so far this season, where he had only one in the 2003-2004 season...This is the second week in a row that the Beacons had back-to-back shutouts...After starting the season 2-12-1, the Beacons have gone 10-4-1 in their last fifteen, 6-3-1 in their last ten...Right Joey Sewell has a five-game goal-scoring streak...Center Aaron Brand is tied for fourth on the all-time point list after tallying two goals and three assists this weekend. Brand now has 39 goals, 46 assists for 85 points in 92 games played.
Quad City Mallards - (1-2-0) â Netminder Jeff Reynaert notched a Mallards season high with 43 saves on Saturday versus Kansas City...Forward Mike Kompon recorded his second multi-goal game in his last six appearances on Saturday in Kansas City. The rookie has five goals in his last six games...Mallards veteran right wing Patrick Nadeau recorded his first goal of the season on Friday in Missouri...Rookie defenseman Sergei Durdin has three assists in the Mallards last two games...Defenseman Colin Peters returned to the Mallards on Saturday after a one-game call-up to the AHL Chicago Wolves. It was Peters' third stint in the American League this season.
Richmond RiverDogs - (1-3-0) â The 'Dogs are 4-1-2 versus Central Division opponents...After eleven straight games of being held to under thirty shots, the âDogs had a thirty-three shot effort on Sunday at Port Huron...Center Ryan Prentice has points in six straight games...The 'Dogs have allowed twenty goals in their last three games...Richmond has been out-scored by fifteen in the second period this season...The 'Dogs allowed a club record fifty-two shots on goal Saturday at Kalamazoo...The 'Dogs are two for their last twenty-one on the power play.
Rockford IceHogs - (2-1-1) â The Hogs ended a 0-25 power play slump Saturday in Fort Wayne going 2-7...Winger Eric Labelle tied a club record Friday recording a penalty in eight straight games...Rockford is 15-0-1 when scoring first this season...For the fourth time this season, Rockford tied a club record with ten power play opportunities in a game on Sunday...Rockford is 9-1-0 on Saturdays.

SHER-WOOD PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Fort Wayne left wing Sean Venedam completed the week with eight points (7g, 1a), a plus-four rating and two hat tricks. On Wednesday, Venedam netted his second hat trick of the season in a 4-5 loss to Missouri, and on Friday, posted his third straight hat trick adding an extra marker for his first four-goal, five-point (4g,1a) game as a Komet. Venedam is the first in Komet history to score three hat tricks in three consecutive games. The 28-year-old Valley East, Ontario native holds third place in points (36), first in plus/minus (plus twenty-four), and a season high for most goals scored in a game by an individual player.

Port Huron's Kory Cooper finished the week with a 2-0-0 record, .000 GAA, and a .100 save percentage for two shutouts. On Wednesday at Quad City, Cooper recorded his first shutout victory stopping all 31 shots to a 3-0 win. On Friday, he stopped all forty Rockford shots and notched an assist on the power play to register the 3-0 win. The 27-year-old Winsloe, Prince Edward Island native enters into week eleven with a 5-3-0 record.
