Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League announce that veteran right-wing Kevin Kerr will be in uniform on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 against the Muskegon Fury at Perani Arena at 7:05 p.m.
Kerr returns to the line up after an off-season knee surgery that required rehabilitation forcing him out of the line-up for the first 28 games of the season. Team doctors have cleared Kerr and informed Generals' Owner & President, Dr. Khaled M. Shukairy , and Vice President & Head Coach, Robbie S. Nichols that Kerr is ready to return to the line-up.
The 37-year-old native of North Bay, Ontario is back with the Generals and holds many team records including most goals scored (348), most game-winning goals (47) most penalty minutes (1,382), most short-handed goals (23), most hat tricks (27) and most shots on goal (1879).
Kerr is the all-time point leader for the Generals with 348 goals, 307 assists for 655 points. Kerr established the record on December 20, 2003 with an assist during a game at Muskegon breaking the old record of 628 points held by former center Brian Sakic. Kerr is the Generals' all-time playoff point leader with 42 goals, 43 assists for 85 points in 58 career games.
Kerr is knocking at the door of professional history to establish a new record for most goals scored in all of minor league professional hockey. Kerr has 662 career goals and is one goal away from tying and two goals away from setting the new record. The current record holder is former IHL-er Scott Gruhl (Saginaw-Muskegon-Cleveland) with 663 goals. Kerr's attempt at history will begin on Wednesday night in Flint.
"Kevin has had a tremendous career and is one of the greatest players ever to wear our jersey," said Vice President & Head Coach, Robbie S. Nichols. "He is one of the fiercest and toughest competitors we have ever seen. Kerr is still a dangerous offensive threat and adds scoring power to our line-up. We will be happy for Kevin as he establishes the goal scoring record," continues Nichols. "It is a tremendous accomplishment and he deserves to have this happen in a Generals' jersey. We are counting on Kevin to be a leader once again for the 2004-2005 season and we are very happy to have Kerr back in the line-up."
