River Otters Dominate Outlaws In 2-1 Victory

December 21, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Missouri River Otters News Release

Chris Bell's spectacular goal highlighted a dominating River Otters 2-1 win against the Kansas City Outlaws Tuesday night at the Kemper Arena.

The Otters scored the game's first goal on an unbelievable effort from Bell. Riding a five-game point streak, the Otters center picked up the puck in the Outlaws zone, cycled around all five Outlaws players, cut through the crease, and fired the puck above a sprawled Maxime Gingras. Kansas City responded with a goal four minutes later on a controversial play. Mathieu Descateaux skated into the Otters zone on what looked like an offside play and ripped the puck behind Otters goaltender Kevin Reiter. After conferring, the referee and linesmen allowed the goal to stand, and the teams went into the second period knotted at one.

The lone goal in the middle period came on an Otters 5-on-3 advantage. Bell got a puck in the corner and fed a perfect pass to Charlie Blyth in front of the net, and Blyth rifled his fifth goal of the season behind Gingras. It's the sixth straight game that Bell has registered an assist.

Neither team scored in the third period, and the River Otters emerged victorious. Reiter made 16 saves for his seventh win of the season, while Gingras made 37 saves in defeat. The River Otters next game is Sunday, December 26 against the Outlaws at the Family Arena. The puck drops at 1:05, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 and the B2 Webcast at www.riverotters.com.
