K-Wings Lock Up 1st Overall Seed With 5-2 Victory Versus River Otters

Jason Deitsch scored two goals as the Kalamazoo Wings locked up the number one seed in the UHL playoffs with a 5-2 victory Friday night against the Missouri River Otters at the Family Arena.

The lone goal in the first period was scored on a K-Wings power play as Deitsch flipped a low wrister behind a screened Kevin Reiter. The River Otters tied the game in the second period on Jim Duhart's 496th career goal, but Kalamazoo came right back to take a 2-1 lead when Scott Johnson fired home a great pass from Daniel Carriere. Kalamazoo dominated the final period with unanswered goals from Deitsch, Kory Karlander, and Nick Bootland to taje a commanding 5-1 lead. Duhart added a late goal for the River Otters but it was too little too late. Joel Martin made 22 saves in the victory while Reiter made 31 saves in defeat.

The River Otters host the Richmond RiverDogs Saturday night at the Family Arena for the season finale. The puck drops at 7:00 CST, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 FM and the B2 Networks, located at www.riverotters.com.
