Jumbo Shrimp Fall to BayBears 9-6

MOBILE, Ala. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (14-25, 42-65) fell to the Mobile BayBears (15-23, 52-54) by an 9-6 score in the fourth game of the five-game series at Hank Aaron Stadium on Tuesday night.

BayBears right-handed relief pitcher Alex Klonowski (7-2) earned the win, working three innings where he allowed a run after Mobile starter Jesus Castillo worked the first three innings in his first start back from the disabled list. Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Max Duval (2-11) took the loss, allowing eight runs (four earned) on 10 hits with a walk, no strikeouts, and two home runs allowed. BayBears right-handed relief pitcher Matt Custred earned his eighth save by working the final two innings while only allowing a run.

The BayBears began the scoring in the bottom of the first with a pair of RBI singles by Brennon Lund and Jose Rojas to lead 2-0. Jacksonville got a run back in the top of the second with an RBI single by Eric Jagielo to cut the lead to 2-1. The BayBears then struck for four runs with two outs in the bottom of the second. After a missed catch error by shortstop Joe Dunand allowed Jo Adell to reach, Brennon Lund hit a three-run home run to grow the lead to 5-1. Roberto Baldoquin added to the advantage with an RBI double to put the lead at 6-1. An inning later in the bottom of the third, Adell hit his first Double-A home run with a two-run shot to left to grow the lead to 8-1.

Jacksonville then struck back in the top of the fourth with a three-run home run by catcher Rodrigo Vigil, his first home run since April 11, to cut Mobile's lead to 8-4. The Shrimp were held off the scoreboard for the next two innings before Brian Miller brought in a run with a groundout in the seventh, then Vigil hit an RBI double in the eighth to cut Mobile's lead to 8-4. Vigil's four runs batted in are a career high for the Jumbo Shrimp catcher.

After Duval's first three innings saw the BayBears score eight runs, right-handed relief pitcher Reilly Hovis turned in four scoreless innings to keep the game close. The BayBears scored a run in the eighth off right-handed relief pitcher Kyle Keller, with Jack Kruger hitting an RBI single to put the lead at 9-6, which would be the final.

The start of the game was delayed by 59 minutes to due to rain and wet grounds in Mobile. Lund ended his night 4-for-5 at the plate with four runs batted in, falling just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.

The Jumbo Shrimp and BayBears will finish their series with the fifth contest of the five-game set on Wednesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium at 7:35 p.m. eastern. Right-handed pitcher Merandy Gonzalez (1-6, 5.03 ERA) will start for Jacksonville against BayBears right-hander Joe Gatto (3-4, 6.00 ERA). The Jumbo Shrimp return home on Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 7:05 p.m. against the Mississippi Braves.
