Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (59-50) picked up their second straight victory, beating the Jackson Generals (58-50), 6-5, on Dough Fest at Riverwalk Stadium. Nate Lowe's second multi-home run game with Montgomery paced the Butter and Blue before Nathan Lukes walked-off the Generals in the tenth.

Montgomery jumped on Jackson starting pitcher Barry Enright. The first three Biscuits reached base, including Nathan Lukes, who led off the first with a double before scoring on a Nick Solak single. Solak soon scored himself as Jake Cronenworth plated the second baseman with a sacrifice fly.

Ahead 2-0, Montgomery starting pitcher Matt Krook was striking out General after General. Although the southpaw struck out five of the first seven batters he faced, Krook ran into trouble with two outs in the third. Back-to-back hits, featuring an RBI-double by Daniel Robertson, cut the Jackson deficit in half.

With rain pelting both parties, Krook would subdue the Generals, retiring Josh Prince with two runners on. However, as the skies opened wider, play was brought to a halt and a 42-minute rain delay ensued.

However, once play resumed, the Biscuits picked up where they left off as Nate Lowe hit his 22nd home run of the season to extend Montgomery's lead.

Because of the delay, Reece Karalus took over for Krook. Just promoted from High-A Charlotte, Karalus kept Jackson off-balanced. The right-hander hurled a pair of scoreless innings, preserving the Biscuits' edge heading into the sixth.

Unfortunately, that is when the Generals solved Karalus. Jackson's Jamie Westbrook started the frame by reaching due to catcher's interference. Karalus then surrendered a one-out walk to Matt Jones, spurring Montgomery manager Brady Williams to go to his bullpen.

In relief, Mike Broadway allowed the basepaths to be cleared by Marty Herum. Herum brought home Westbrook and Jones with a two-run double, which supplied Jackson its first advantage.

Despite Montgomery knotting the score at 4-4, thanks to a Josh Prince fielding error in the sixth, Westbrook pushed the Generals back ahead. Yet, Lowe answered the call once more and smacked his second home run of the night, belting a Kevin Ginkel offering up and over the right-field wall.

But, Montgomery wasn't done yet as Yoel Espinal (2-1) extended the contest by keeping Jackson off the board prior to Nathan Lukes walking-off Generals' reliever Kirby Bellow (5-3) with an RBI-single in the tenth. Peter Maris, who started the inning on second base, advanced to third due to a wild pitch and scored on the base knock.

The Biscuits conclude a five-game homestand against Jackson at 12:05 p.m. on Military Wednesday at Riverwalk Stadium. Brock Burke (2-0) will make his second start at home for Montgomery while the Generals have yet to name a starter.
