Last time out...

The Freedom split a doubleheader with the Lake Erie Crushers on Thursday. Florence won game one 4-2 as they scored four runs in the fourth inning. Zac Mitchell hit a solo home run and Justin Harris added a RBI single in the frame. Florence scored two runs when Harris stole second with runners at first and third. The throw went into center and both runners came around to make it 4-0. Chuck Weaver dominated on the mound for the Freedom to pick up the win. Lake Erie managed a couple runs in the eighth but Ethan Gibbons and Ed Kohout shut the door after that. The Crushers got the Freedom back in game two by a score of 2-0. Jose Barraza and Anderson Hidalgo hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth off Jeremy Gooding to give Lake Erie the lead for good in the seven-inning game. Todd Kibby, Mike Devine and Daniel DeSimone shut down the Freedom's offense. The Freedom have scored a combined one run in Gooding's three losses this season.

For Starters...

Tony Vocca makes his sixth start of the season and his 21st overall appearance this year for the Freedom. He is coming off his first loss of the season, as he gave up one run on two hits in two innings of work out of the bullpen on July 26 against the Southern Illinois Miners in a 2-1 loss for Florence. Vocca's most recent start came against the Rockford Aviators on July 22 as he got a no-decision in a 4-2 loss for Florence. Vocca gave up two runs on three hits over four innings in that game. He faced the Wild Things out of the bullpen on June 24 and pitched one inning of shutout ball in a 2-1 defeat for the Freedom. A native of Cottonwood, Arizona, Vocca played his college ball first at Yavapai College, then the University of Utah and later for Minnesota State University-Mankato. He posted a 12-8 record and 5.21 ERA over the course of his four-year college career, also tallying 125 strikeouts in 140 innings pitched. In 2013, after his college days were over, Vocca pitched for the Prescott Montezuma Federals of the Freedom Pro Baseball League, a four-team independent league based out of Arizona. Vocca spent this past winter pitching for the Adelaide Bite of the Australian Baseball League.
