
Giacalone Shines in Slammers 4-1 Win

Joliet, IL- Pitcher Adam Giacalone makes three early runs hold up as the Joliet Slammers (27-37) beat the Frontier Greys (28-34) 4-1 on Friday night.
The Slammers got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first inning against pitcher Max Duval. SS Alfredo Rodriguez was plunked by a pitch then advanced to second on a balk. 3B Mike Garza drove in Rodriguez with a single to left, putting Joliet on top 1-0.
Joliet kept their momentum going with a pair of runs in the second frame. RF Hunter Ridge led off with a double. C Jack Cleary followed with a single to left, advancing Rodriguez to third. The new acquisition DH Mason Snyder earned his first RBI with a sacrifice fly that plated Ridge. 2B Max Casper singled and put two on for the top of the order. CF Charlie White grounded into a fielder's choice to place runners at the corners. As Casper stood on third, Duval balked for the second time in as many innings which pushed the score to 3-0 after two.
The Slammers scored again in the bottom of the fifth inning. White led off with a single and reached third when catcher Julio Rodriguez's throw went into center, CF Jhiomar Veras sailed the ball out of play allowing White to score, giving the Slammers a 4-0 lead.
In the meanwhile pitcher Adam Giacalone cruised, scattering four hits without allowing a run in the first six innings. Frontier would find the scoreboard in their half of the seventh. 3B Zach Tanner and CF Jhiomar Veras singled. DH Michael Antonio singled as well to score Tanner making the score 4-1 Slammers.
After Giacalone escaped the seventh, Kevin McNorton came on to pitch a scoreless eighth. Navery Moore came in for the ninth and shut down the Greys to seal the three run victory. It was Moore's thirteenth save, tying him for third in the Frontier League.
Our Merchants and Manufacturers Bank Player of the Game, however, was Adam Giacalone. He went seven innings, giving up just one run and striking out six.
