
Heck Blasts Walk off Single to Best Florence 4-3

WASHINGTON, PA- The Washington Wild Things won in comeback fashion Friday evening in a close series opener against the Florence Freedom by a final score of 4-3. Matt Purnell improved to (2-1) with the victory, while Ed Kohout was charged with the late inning loss.
The Wild Things got out to the early lead on an RBI single by Andrew Heck, set up by a single from Matt Ford and walks by David Popkins and Sam Mende. Shortstop Austin Wobrock extended the lead to 2-0 in the following at bat with an RBI single.
Washington starting pitcher Ernesto Zaragoza struck out three batters in five hitless innings. The no hitter came to an end with a single by Florence's Daniel Fraga. Another single by Sam Eberle set up a Kyle Carter RBI ground rule double to tie the game at two. The Freedom took the lead on an RBI groundout by Ozzy Gonzalez.
The Wild Things were in need of a rally heading into the bottom of the ninth. Ford found himself in scoring position with a single and stolen base. Ford attempted to tie the game on a single by Popkins but would be thrown out at home. Carter Bell provided the game-tying run with an RBI single, scoring Matt Peters. Heck completed the comeback with an RBI walk off single to center field giving the Wild Things the 4-3 final score victory.
