CHARLESTON, SC - The dog days of August have arrived, but the Charleston RiverDogs aren't showing any worse for the ware. From Aug. 5-8, Charleston's favorite professional sports team plays host to the future of the Yankees-Mets "Subway Series" by squaring off against the Savannah Sand Gnats. At the same time, the Class-A affiliate of the 27-time World Champion New York Yankees will tip a cap to the Lowcountry's baseball heritage through several exciting promotions.

Charleston Baseball Hall of Fame Night ushers in the homestand on Force Protection Red Shirt Friday, Aug. 5, as Roberto Alomar, William Ackerman and Mike Kimbrell take their place among the Holy City's finest baseball contributors.

A weekend of recognizing Charleston's rich hardball history continues on Saturday, Aug. 6 with a glance back at the RiverDogs' more recent past. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a South Carolina State Ports Authority Josh Hamilton RiverDogs/Rangers split bobblehead which pays respect to his minor league days before he became an American League MVP. Special recognition will be given to port employees and business on Ports Night, as the RiverDogs continue their season-long charting of home runs in an effort to show the need to deepen the Charleston harbor.

Friday, August 5 - 7:05 p.m. vs. Savannah Sand Gnats: Force Protection Industries, Inc. Red Shirt Friday, Piggly Wiggly Postgame Fireworks, Charleston Baseball Hall of Fame Night, Fritos Family Friday

Three baseball luminaries will further solidify their place in Lowcountry baseball lore as they are inducted into the Charleston Baseball Hall of Fame prior to the game's first pitch. This year's class is led by former Charleston Rainbows infielder Roberto Alomar, who just two weeks ago became a new member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Local philanthropist William Ackerman and former Wando High and Clemson hurler Mike Kimbrell will also be honored. Another Force Protection Red Shirt Friday gives fans the opportunity to show off their patriotic side as they "Be Your Own Fan" of the military. The RiverDogs will don red jerseys, and fans who follow suit and wear red receive a $1 off their ticket. Charitable fans can then extend a helping hand by donating that dollar to a military family with parents fighting overseas. On Fritos Family Friday, fans can spend quality time with the family and save 10% on RiverDogs merchandise by displaying a bag of Fritos. Following the game, the perfect night out is capped by a captivating fireworks display over the scenic Ashley River, courtesy of Piggly Wiggly.

Everyone loves free stuff, and the RiverDogs treat their great fans to another quality giveaway this week, courtesy of the South Carolina State Ports Authority, with whom the RiverDogs have been "Going Deep" all season to raise awareness for the Charleston port deepening project. Josh Hamilton began his journey to big league stardom in the Holy City, and a one-of-a-kind RiverDogs/Rangers split bobblehead recognizes the arc of the slugger's career. The first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive the giveaway which they can add to their collection of RiverDogs mementos. Once inside the park, fans can look forward to Port-themed promotions and food, including the "Boat Load" hot dog. The Homewrecker will be renamed to honor the South Carolina State Ports Authority, as fans can load up their dog with up to 15 different toppings, and six different mustards on National Mustard Day. Lowcountry Local First once again fulfills its goal of promoting the area, as Tricounty residents can save a $1 on their ticket and find out about some of the best local businesses in the Holy City and beyond. After the game, youngsters can spring out of their seats and onto the diamond for Kids Run the Bases.
