The West Virginia Power fell to the Greensboro Grasshoppers 6-2 on Tuesday evening. The 'Hoppers tallied four runs in the fourth to boost their lead and never look back.
The Grasshopper scored first with a two run double by Noah Perio to left centerfield. Perio's two base hit scored Wilfredo Gimenez and Joe Bonnadonna to give Greensboro an early 2-0 lead.
The Power cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kevin Mort singled and advanced to third on a single by Dan Grovatt. Mort scored on an infield single by Chase Lyles that landed just behind the Grasshopper's pitcher Greg Nappo shrinking the Greensboro lead to 2-1.
The 'Hoppers shot ahead 6-1 with four runs tallied in the top of the seventh inning. Noah Perio, Daniel Black, Mark Canha, andMarcell Ozuna all came across as Greensboro collected four runs on four hits, a walk, and a sacrifice fly against Power reliever Victor Black.
West Virginia scored a second run in the bottom of the eighth on a double by Dan Grovatt. Grovatt's double scored Drew Maggi who reached on a walk. The run moved the score to 6-2, which would hold through the final inning and be the final tally.
Greg Nappo (3-0) picked up the win for Greensboro with six strong innings to start the ballgame. Nappo's pitching allowed West Virginia to collect only one run on six hits.
Porforio Lopez (1-4) took the loss giving up two runs on three hits, striking out four in two and one thirds innings pitched.
The Power and the Grasshoppers play game three of the four game set on Wednesday evening with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch scheduled at Appalachian Power Park. West Virginia will open with left hander Eliecer Navarro (1-0) matched up against right hander Robert Morey (6-7) for Greensboro.
