Dan Black hit two solo home runs and drove in all three runs as the Kannapolis Intimidators defeated the Lexington Legends 3-2 Tuesday night. Black opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning.
Lexington came back to take the lead with two runs in the second. Telvin Nash led off with a walk. One out later, he advanced to third on Tyler Burnett's ground rule double, and later scored on a wild pitch. Ben Orloff followed with a double to center to score Burnett, giving the Legends a 2-1 lead.
Black tied the game with his second home run in the fourth inning. The Intimidators scored the decisive run in the eighth. With one out, Keenyn Walker singled, and Marcus Semien's fly ball fell for a hit when right fielder Emilio King lost sight of the ball. Black then doubled to right, scoring Walker with the game's final run.
Lexington starter Luis Cruz threw seven strong innings, allowing two runs while striking out nine. Kannapolis starter Phil Negus went five innings and struck out eight while allowing two runs. Nick McCully (3-2) got the win in relief. Murilo Gouvea (1-1), who pitched the last two innings, was the losing pitcher.
The two teams have split the first two games in the series. Game three will be played Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
