Six Braves Errors Lead to Greenville Victory

Rome, GA - The Greenville Drive defeated the Rome Braves Tuesday night at State Mutual Stadium before a crowd of 1,894. Six Braves errors and seven walks by the pitching staff helped Greenville edge Rome in game of the series. Game three will be Wednesday afternoon at 1pm.

Chris Garcia gave the Braves an early 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first on an RBI single up the middle to score Tommy La Stella. Matt Lipka kept things going two innings later in the bottom of the third with a leadoff single. La Stella would move him to second on a groundout and after a wild pitch and a balk Lipka would score and give the Braves a 2-0 lead.

Greenville would take advantage of four Braves' errors in the top of the fifth to push across two unearned runs and tie the game 2-2. Greenville did their damage with only one infield single. Michael Almanzar would put the Drive on top 3-2 with an RBI single in the top of he sixth that scored Christian Vasquez.

Rome would not be down long after Tommy La Stella (4) led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo homer to right field and tie the game 3-3.

The 3-3 tie would hold and take the game into extra innings but five walks by Rome reliever Tyler Stovall in the top of the tenth gave Greenville a 5-3 lead. Rome would go down in order in the bottom of the tenth and end the game 5-3.

Justin Erasmus (3-0) earns the win for Greenville and Tyler Stovall (1-4) takes the loss for Rome.
