BlueClaws Bounce Back with 6-1 Win

SALISBURY, MD- The Lakewood BlueClaws beat the Delmarva Shorebirds 6-2 on Tuesday night to even up their 4 game series at 1-1. Lakewood got a very nice start was newcomer Austin Wright, and then the bullpen did their job to preserve the lead. The BlueClaws bats came alive a little bit as well with 10 hits en route to 6 runs scored.

In his very first appearance as a Lakewood BlueClaw, LHP Austin Wright made it a memorable one. The lefty who was the Phillies 8th round pick less than 2 months ago out of Ole Miss picked up the win in his debut. Wright went 6 innings, allowed just 1 run on 6 hits striking out 5. The lon run allowed by Wright came on a solo Home Run by Brenden Webb in the 5th inning. Colby Shreve was the first pitcher out of the bullpen for Lakewood as he tossed his 18th and 19th consecutive innings without allowing an earned run to begin his month of July. Tyler Knigge tossed the 9th inning for Lakewood to close it out.

The BlueClaws had 4 players with multi-hit games led by Jim Murphy and Domingo Santana. Santana was 2-3 with a double, a single, a walk, and 3 runs scored. Murphy chipped in with 2 doubles and a run scored as well. Miguel Alvarez and Anthony Hewitt each had 2 hits for Lakewood as well.

Wednesday the BlueClaws will send our RHP Garett Claypool (3-7, 3.70 ERA) to start game 3 of the 4 game series. Delmarva will start LHP Tim Berry (3-6, 5.79 ERA). First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm on Wednesday.
