BlueClaws Cruise Past Shorebirds, 6-2

Salisbury, Md. - The Lakewood BlueClaws held the Delmarva Shorebirds (50-58, 15-23) to just one run over the first eight innings to win game two, 6-2, at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Tuesday night.
Lakewood scored early in the first inning. Miguel Alvarez was hit by a pitch to open the game. He moved to second on a wild pitch by Jarret Martin. Edgar Duran dropped a sacrifice bunt to move Alvarez to third. Then, Zach Collier hit a groundout to short to bring in the first run.
The BlueClaws added to their lead in the fourth inning. Jim Murphy hit a leadoff double. Then, Domingo Santana hit a double up the right field line to score Murphy. Later in the inning, with Santana at third, Cameron Rupp swung and missed at a third strike but the ball got away from Joe Oliveira, allowing Santana to score.
In the fifth inning, the Shorebirds got on the board. Brenden Webb connected on his fourth homer of the season and his first since June 6 to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Lakewood plated two more runs in the sixth inning. Carlos Alonso hit a sacrifice fly RBI to center field and Rupp hit a two-out single into center field to stretch the lead to 5-1.
Down 6-1 in the ninth, the Shorebirds tacked on a run. Adam Gaylord hit a flare single into right-center field to score Oliveira, who walked to open the inning.
Shorebirds starter Jarret Martin was pinned with the loss over six innings. He allowed eight hits and four earned runs. Martin walked two batters and struck out two. Lakewood starter Austin Wright, who was debuting in the SAL, tossed six innings to earn the win.
Cameron Roth hurled two innings of relief and allowed one run while Travis Strong tossed a scoreless ninth inning.
The Shorebirds and BlueClaws play game three of the series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Tim Berry is the scheduled starter.
