
Jordan shatters franchise assist record in win

HIDALGO, TEXAS - Rio Grande Valley Vipers (11-21) point guard Jared Jordan recorded a franchise record 21 assists en route to a 122-116 victory over the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (12-22) tonight at Dodge Arena. The win snaps a six-game losing streak. The Mad Ants are now losers of three-straight.
The previous Vipers assists record was 15, set by C.J. Watson on December 22, 2007 against Dakota. Jordan matched the feet on February 18th in Anaheim.
Jordan also had 10 points, five rebounds and three steals. It was Jordan's fourth double-double of the season.
The Vipers also broke the franchise record for assists in a single- game with 35. The previous high was 34, accomplished against Albuquerque on December 14th, 2008.
Down 104-97 with 5:55 left, Jawad Williams hit three-straight baskets for the Vipers, including a pair of three-pointers, to tie the game at 105-105 with 4:11 remaining. Williams had 19 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter while accounting for 52.8% of the Vipers' offense in the frame.
The Mad Ants were paced by Coleman Collins, who scored 25 points while pulling down seven rebounds. Walker Russel Jr. had 12 points and 12 assists to go with ten turnovers.
The Vipers owned the offensive glass, with 17 such rebounds compared to six for the Mad Ants in a game that featured 38 lead changes and 19 ties.
The Vipers will be back in action tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. against the Erie BayHawks at Louis J. Tullio Arena.
