Idaho Stampede News Release

BOISE, Idaho, February 26, 2009 -The Toronto Raptors today assigned forward-center Nathan Jawai to the Idaho Stampede, the Raptors' NBA Development League affiliate. Jawai is the 26th assignment of the season.

Jawai, 22, has appeared in five games for the Raptors, totaling two points and two rebounds in 18 minutes. He was cleared Dec. 17, to begin physical activity after being sidelined since training camp for precautionary reasons as a result of an abnormality detected during normal procedural preseason cardiac screening.

"We are really excited to have a Toronto Raptor here in Boise and with our team," said Stampede Head Coach Bryan Gates. "This is a great opportunity to get Nathan back on the floor and see some quality playing minutes. It has been an absolute pleasure working with the Toronto Raptors on Nathan's assignment."

Toronto acquired the draft rights to Jawai from the Indiana Pacers on July 9. He was the 41st overall selection in the 2008 NBA Draft. He is the first indigenous player from Australia to be drafted by an NBA team.

Jawai is the third Raptor to be assigned to the D-League. P.J. Tucker was assigned twice to Colorado during the 2006-07 season and Pape Sow was assigned to the Arkansas Rimrockers in the 2005-06 campaign.

Jawai will join the team this Friday night when the Stampede take on the Utah Flash at 7:00 p.m. at Qwest Arena in Downtown Boise.
