Reno Bighorns News Release
Reno--The Reno Bighorns added a Forward to their roster Monday, February 23, when they acquired 6'9" 280 Alton Ford. The former University of Houston Cougar was a second round pick (51st overall) of the Phoenix Suns in the 2001 NBA Draft.
Ford played for the Suns during the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 seasons. Ford was then picked up by Houston Rockets for the 2003-2004 season.
Ford left college after only one year for the NBA Draft. While at Houston Ford was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team after playing in 26 games, 18 of which he started, as he averaged 10.8 ppg and 5.9 rpg. Ford's scoring average ranks seventh among Houston's all-time freshman scoring and his 5.9 rebounds ranks fifth.
Ford was a finalist for the Naismith High School boy's basketball Player-of-the-Year award and a top 10 high school recruit according to ESPN.
Fords big frame will add another physical presence under the basket for the Bighorns. His debut will be this Friday when the Bighorns play Anaheim Arsenal at 7:00 pm at the downtown Reno Events Center. Garry Hill-Thomas has been released due to injury.
