Johnstown Holds on for 6-5 Win against Springfield

The Johnstown Tomahawks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Springfield Jr. Blues on the way to a 6-5 win.

Johnstown made the score 6-4 on a goal by Brandon Reinholz at 16:39 in the third period, and Springfield got as close as 6-5 when Lancaster scored 16:39 into the third period.

Reinholz had two goals and one assist to lead the Tomahawks. Reinholz scored the first of his two goals at 13:27 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Johnstown. Brady Bender assisted on the tally. Reinholz's next tally made the score Johnstown with 3:21 left in the third period. Matthew Meier picked up the assist.

Johnstown's offense was clicking better than usual and put 29 shots on goal during the game, better than the 21.9 shots per game it averages. The Tomahawks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Johnstown has scored at the pace of 2.8 goals per game during the current campaign.

Johnstown additionally got points from Meier, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Omar Mullan, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Shane Bednard, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Garrison Sanipass also scored for Johnstown. More assists for Johnstown came via Trevor Recktenwald, who had one.

The Jr. Blues' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Springfield averages 2.8 goals per contest. The Jr. Blues' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. By firing 31 shots on goal, Springfield exceeded the 22.4 shots it averages per game this year.

The Jr. Blues were helped by Michael Mylchreest, who finished with one goal. Mylchreest scored on the power play 2:54 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Springfield. Springfield had taken the advantage when the Tomahawks' Meier got sent off for slashing. Max Kalter provided the assist. Springfield also got points from Davis Dekorte, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Springfield also got a goal from Mike Severson as well. In addition, Springfield received assists from Nik Dotolo, Nick Belger, William Scherer, Joshua Lammon, and Alex Baskakov, who each chipped in one.

Alex Okicki made 26 saves for Johnstown on 31 shots. The Tomahawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Sandro Aeschlimann recorded 23 saves for the Jr. Blues. Springfield incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
