Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release

NORTH RICHLANDS HILLS, Texas - Evan Okeley scored his first-career North American Hockey League goal, but it was not enough to prevent the Wichita Falls Wildcats (11-6-3) from falling to the Lone Star Brahmas (5-13-1), 2-1 on Saturday. The Brahmas were the first to get on the board, and it was a former Wildcat who gave Lone Star the advantage. Kellen Wasell received a head-man pass from Donovan Gardiner and beat David Zevnik on a breakaway to make it 1-0 at 4:14 of the opening period. The Wildcats responded immediately however, as Okeley found the back of the net just 15 seconds later. Okeley take a cross-ice pass from Jake Townsend in stride and skated into the offensive zone. Using the defenseman as a screen, Okeley ripped a shot into the top corner to even the contest at 1-1. Lone Star regained the lead in the second period on an unassisted goal from Gardiner. After blocking a shot in the defensive zone, Gardiner rushed all the way up the ice and beat Zevnik five-hole with a slapshot. Wichita Falls pressed hard to find an equalizing tally, outshooting the Brahmas 12-8 in the third period and 37 to 17 for the game, but the effort fell just short. The Wildcats are next in action when they travel to Kenai River to take on the Brown Bears on Friday, Nov. 15. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. CST, with coverage on Fasthockey.com.
