Wenatchee Wild News Release
Wenatchee, WA. - The Michigan Warriors broke open a scoreless tie with 3 goals in the second and 2 more in the third, skating past the Wenatchee Wild 5-1 at the Town Toyota Center Saturday night, in front of 2,946.
After a scoreless first period, Michigan took the lead in the opening minute of the second period, as T.J. Stuntz scored from Jake Hopfner at 28 seconds, for a 1-0 lead. The lead would grow 4 minutes later on an Alec Pellegrino goal, assisted by Zack Szajner and Mitchell Wedding at 4:35, making it 2-0 Warriors. The lead grew again at 10:23 as Connor Lyons scored from Nick Govig and Jake Faiella for a 3-0 Michigan advantage. The Wild would finally get on the board, as Nick Anderson (Stillwater, Minnesota) scored from David Powlowski (Rochester, New York) at 15:38, slicing the deficit to 3-1 through 40 minutes.
In the third, a Josh Shellman goal, assisted by Stuntz at 32 seconds made it 4-1 Warriors. Then, a Szajner unassisted goal at 1:17 pushed the Michigan advantage to 5-1, which ended up being the final score. "We got fat and happy" said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach Bliss Littler. "We won three games and got pretty fat and happy. We forgot how hard you have to work to win; we had no interest in the hard work tonight. We'll take care of that on Monday."
The Warriors outshot Wenatchee 29-26 on the night. Gustaf Johansson (Uppsala, Sweden) and Chase Perry (Andover, Minnesota) combined to make 24 saves for the Wild; Dillon Kelly had 25 saves for Michigan. Wenatchee was 0-for-4 on the power play and 3-of-4 on the penalty kill.
The Wild is now 8-9-2, the Warriors are 9-4-6.
Wenatchee now hits the road for a pair of games at the Johnstown Tomahawks, on Friday and Saturday, November 15th at 4:30pm PST and 16th at 4:00pm PST. Those games will be followed by two at the Michigan Warriors on Friday and Saturday, November 22nd and 23rd at 4:00pm PST both days.
