Minot Uses Shootout to Best Brookings, 2-1 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Minot Minotauros defeated the Brookings Blizzard in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams.

Minot was led by goalie Merrick Madsen, who finished with 33 saves while allowing one goal. Madsen certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.29 entering the contest.

The 27 shots that the Minotauros put on net surpassed Minot's average of 19.1 shots per game this season. The defense for the Minotauros played an important role offensively, racking up 13 shots on goal.

Minot was led by Cameron Rowat, who grabbed one goal. Rowat scored 11:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Minot. Max Pernhem picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Minot were Jacob Howie, who had one.

Brookings' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Minot power plays. The Blizzard relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Evan Hesse, Russ Jordan and Brandon Parker took 19 of the team's 34 shots.

More assists for Brookings came via Nick DeCenzo, who had one.

The Minotauros ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Austin Priebe rejected 25 shots on goal for Brookings. The Blizzard totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play.
