Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors of the West Coast Hockey League have three games on docket for this weekend, starting with a pair of matches in Long Beach and finishing with Sunday's home game against the Idaho Steelheads.

Friday night's game starts at 7:30pm, and Saturday's game begins at 7:00pm, both from the Long Beach Arena. Saturday's game is the featured season ticket game in Long Beach, as Condors full-season ticket holders received a free voucher for this game in their ticket books. The voucher must be redeemed in person at the Long Beach Arena box office at 300 Ocean Blvd. in Long Beach. For more information or for directions, call (562) 436-3636. All games, home or away, can be heard on KGEO AM 1230, with "Condors Countdown" starting 15 prior to game time. Condors Broadcaster Kevin Bartl handles the play-by-play.

While the team is on the road, fans can still watch the Condors in action. Another "Condors Classic" will air on Friday night at 7:00pm on Time Warner Cable Ch. 21. The featured game is from February 18th, 2001, a 5-3 win over the Idaho Steelheads. The match includes one of the most memorable goals in Condors history, scored by Paul Rosebush while diving through the air. "Condors Classics" can be seen on Time Warner Cable every Friday when the team is not playing, or on the road.

The team returns home to host the Steelheads once again on Sunday evening. After the game, the team's Metal Blade warm up jerseys will be auctioned off in a Jersey Off Our Backs Raffle and Auction, sponsored by the Spanish Radio Group. Everyone in attendance will have the chance to win one of five jerseys being given away throughout the night, and all proceeds from the auction will benefit the American Bone Marrow Donor Registry.

Sunday's match is also a San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District "Please Don't Light Tonight" game. If the Condors keep the Steelheads from scoring, or "lighting the lamp", everyone in attendance will receive complimentary terrace admission to the next PDLT game on February 12th.

Local students will also be represented at this game as a part of the Condors Classroom Champions, sponsored by CBS-29, McDonald's and Big Valley Construction. The Classroom Champions program runs throughout the season, and rewards students for outstanding attendance. Condors players visit participating schools to talk with students and hand out vouchers for free tickets.

The Condors Coach's Show can be heard tonight from 6-7:00pm on KGEO AM 1230, live from the Holiday Inn Select at 801 Truxtun Ave. This week's guests are Quinn Fair and Guy Dupuis, as well as Condors Head Coach Paul Kelly. Fans can tune in, call in with questions at 631-1230, or come out to the show, meet the players, and win Condors prizes.

Individual tickets can be purchased at the Centennial Garden Box Office, by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at ticketmaster.com or stopping by any Ticketmaster location. Season and group tickets may be purchased by calling 324-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Condors office next to Centennial Garden at 1001 Truxtun Ave.

Condors droppings: The January website auction features the chance to co-host the Condors Coach's Show, alongside Condors broadcaster Kevin Bartl and Head Coach Paul Kelly, live from the Holiday Inn Select. Plus, the winner will also receive a pair of tickets to a select game in February and a Condors long sleeve T-shirt. Log on to www.bakersfieldcondors.com to place your bid. All proceeds go towards the American Red Cross - Kern County Chapter.
