
Taylor Nears Career Scoring Record

PRINCETON, N.J. â Rod Taylor of South Carolina enters Friday's game at Florida needing only one point to tie the East Coast Hockey League career scoring record of 685 points held by Darryl Noren.
In his 12th professional season, Taylor has scored 14 points (8g-6a) in 22 games for the Stingrays in 2002-03 and has 684 points (368g-316a) in 12 seasons in the ECHL. Noren played 10 seasons in the ECHL and ranks third in career assists (390) and fifth in career games (549).
Taylor has played all but 18 of his 683 regular season professional games in the ECHL and holds the ECHL all-time records for regular season games played (665), goals (368), most seasons with 30 goals (8), and most consecutive 30-goal seasons (6).
The 36-year-old Taylor began his professional career in 1991-92 with Hampton Roads scoring 50 points (26g-24a) in 40 regular season games, and he led the 1992 Riley Cup Playoffs with 16 goals and 26 points while helping the Admirals capture the ECHL Championship. He scored 52 points (30g-22a) in 37 regular season games and three goals in two postseason games with Hampton Roads in 1992-93, and played with Baltimore in the American Hockey League, scoring seven points (3g-4a) in 18 regular season games while also appearing in four postseason games.
The 5-10 and 185-pound Taylor played nine seasons for Hampton Roads from 1991-2000 scoring 565 points (312g-253) in 528 regular season games. He scored 64 points (36g-28a) in 73 postseason games helping Hampton Roads capture the Kelly Cup in 1998. He scored 56 points (34g-22a) in 61 regular season games and six points (0g-6a) in 10 postseason games with Richmond in 2000-01. He had 25 points (8g-17a) in 33 games with Richmond in 2001-02 before finishing the season with Roanoke where he scored 24 points (6g-18a) in 21 regular season games and one point (1g-0a) in one postseason game.
Named Second Team All-ECHL following the 1994-95 season, Taylor is third all-time in the ECHL for career postseason goals (39), tied for third for most goals in a postseason (16 in 1992) and fourth in career postseason games (78).
