Louisiana IceGators News Release
Lafayette, LA â Louisiana IceGators rookie defenseman Rod Sarich will replace teammate Kevin Mitchell in Tuesday's 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game at TECO Arena in Estero, Fla., the team announced Thursday.
Mitchell, who was voted as a starter for the Southern Conference, is currently with Bridgeport in the American Hockey League. Starting in place of Mitchell on defense for the Southern Conference will be South Carolina rookie Aaron Schneekloth, who received the next most votes among all-star defensemen.
Selected in the fourth round (109th overall) by Florida in the 1999 National Hockey League Entry Draft, the 21-year-old Sarich (SAHR-ich) is tied for third among ECHL rookies in plus-minus with +17 and he has scored 14 (2g, 12a) points in 40 games in his first professional season. He picked up his first pro goal in a 6-2 win over Mississippi on December 20. Sarich's brother, Cory, is a defenseman for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
