Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Tucker Jensen fired eight shutout innings, allowing the Traverse City Beach Bums just three hits as the Gateway Grizzlies picked up a shutout victory, 7-0, on Sunday evening at Wuerfel Park.

Jensen (6-2) retired the first eight batters he faced for Gateway before giving up a two-out single to Greg Harisis in the last of the third. Harisis would reach again on a bunt single in the sixth to account for the second TC hit, but Jensen got out of the frame unscathed. Scott Woodward singled to lead off the eighth for the other Beach Bums base knock, but he was stranded at third. In his eight innings, Jensen allowed three hits while striking out six and walking one.

The Grizzlies offense got all the runs they needed in two multi-run innings. In the third, Richard Siegel was hit by a pitch before Madison Beiard walked against Rusty Shellhorn. A sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position, setting up Tommy Richards, who drove in two runs with a single to left. Two batters later, Landon Hernandez homered to make it 4-0.

That was the long rough inning for Shellhorn (4-1), who managed to last six frames, allowing four runs on four hits while tying a season-high with seven strikeouts.

Gateway added to its lead in the seventh inning with three runs on four singles and a walk to push the lead to the eventual final score of 7-0.

Scott Vachon and Will Rankin authored perfect 1-2-3 innings with a strikeout in the eighth and ninth, respectively, out of the Traverse City bullpen.

TC now hits the road for the first game in a three-game series on Monday night against the Joliet Slammers. Tanner Tripp (1-3, 4.80) is scheduled to start for the Beach Bums with Travis Bradshaw (0-1, 9.64) countering for the Slammers. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET. Fans can listen to the broadcast starting at 7:45 p.m. on Classic Rock the Bear 98.1/107.1 and classicrockthebear.com.
