July 20, 2014 - Frontier League (FL)
Southern Illinois Miners News Release
Marion, Ill. (July 20, 2014) - The Southern Illinois Miners surrendered 13 runs on 15 hits on Sunday in Evans- ville in a 13-1 defeat at Bosse Field in the finale of the second and final regular season series against the Ot- ters this season.
The Miners fell behind 1-0 on a solo home run by Nik Balog in the second frame, but got it back when Jay Austin and Ryan Cavan completed a double steal, with a throwing error plating Austin to tie the game at 1-1.
Evansville would score five in the bottom of the inning, however, and went on to plate 13, one shy of the most the Miners have given up this season. Southern Illinois saw their six-game winning streak snap in the defeat, while finishing 4-2 against the Otters this season. They took both series two games to one, clinching the tiebreaker between the two teams.
The Miners will head home for their first home contest in 11 days when they take on the Gateway Grizzlies at 7:05 p.m. on Monday night at Rent One Park. Rick Teasley will go up against Gateway's Tyler Thompson in the first game of the third and final series for Southern Illinois against the Grizzlies in 2014.
The Southern Illinois Miners are the 2012 Frontier League Champions and have been awarded the Frontier League Organization of the Year award three times since their inception. They also set a new Frontier League attendance record in 2007, their inaugural season. For ticket information, please contact the Rent One Park box office at 618-998-8499.
