Joliet Slammers News Release
The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy-lost game three of the series against Windy City 5-3 on Sunday at Silver Cross Field.
Both teams scored three times in the 1st inning. Colin Gotzon gave up a walk to the Windy City leadoff man Evan Button and then Michael Torres put down a beautiful bunt single. Kyle Robinson followed with a three-run homer into the "beach area" in right. Joliet responded against the ThunderBolts starter Travis Tingle. Jake Gronsky singled, Russell Moldenhauer walked and Grant DeBruin singled to load the bases with one out. Adam Giacalone singled to right to score two runs and make it 3-2. Seth Granger followed with an RBI grounder and that tied the game at 3-3. Both pitchers then found the groove and it stayed 3-3 until the 5th inning.
In the top of the 5th, Button led off with a double and Torres followed with another bunt single. Robinson drove in his fourth run of the day with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-3. Ryan McIntyre reached on an error by the new pitcher Matt Crim and that pushed the score to 5-3. That is how the game would finish as Joliet failed to score the rest of the way. They did have some chances however with 12 runners left on base for the ballgame including leaving the bases loaded in the 6th inning. Gotzon gave up four earned runs over 6-plus innings and Matt Crim did well out of the bullpen. He did not allow an earned run over 3 2/3 innings and then David Kubiak pitched a scoreless 9th. Daniel Carela picked up the save for Windy City.
Chris Epps made a great diving catch in the 3rd inning and took himself out with a bruised shoulder. JD Dorgan made his pro debut behind the plate for the Slammers and finished 2-4 at the plate and threw out a pair of base runners. Gronsky finished with two hits and two walks on the day and is hitting .385 in his 1st seven professional games..
