Bakersfield Jam News Release
HIDALGO, TX - Terrico White scored a season-high 38 points on 14-of-24 shooting, including 7-of-12 from beyond the arc, but the Bakersfield Jam (21-25) fell to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (26-20) 139-125 Friday night at the State Farm Arena.
The Vipers shot 68.2 percent from the field in the opening period, compared to the Jam's 44.0 percent, and took a 42-25 lead after one quarter of play. Rio Grande Valley's Jarvis Threatt came off the bench and scored 15 points in the quarter alone. The Vipers stretched their lead to as many as 20 points in the second period, but the Jam were able to cut it down to 10 at halftime (73-63), thanks in part to White's 12-point quarter performance.
Bakersfield managed to get momentum on their side in the third quarter, as they surged to 15-4 run and got within four points (90-86) at the 4:44 mark. Rio Grande Valley would respond with a run of their own and went into the final frame with a 105-94 advantage. The Jam continued to fight in the fourth quarter, but the Vipers kept knocking down shots and ultimately ran away with the win. With the loss, the Jam are eliminated from playoff contention.
Xavier Silas tallied 22 points while Askia Booker off the bench posted 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Cory Jefferson (19), Kyle Casey (13) and Derek Cooke Jr. (11) also scored in double-figures.
The Vipers were paced by Will Cummings (27 points, 8 assists) and Houston Rockets assignee Montrezl Harrell (25 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists). Jaron Johnson (23) and Jarvis Threatt (20) also hit the 20-point mark.
Both teams face each other again tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. PT.
