Devin Ebanks Scores 26, But Grand Rapids Falls to Canton

CANTON, Ohio - Devin Ebanks got hit in the mouth during the final seconds of Friday's game. It was that kind of day for the Grand Rapids Drive.

Ebanks had 26 points and nine rebounds, but Grand Rapids lost 114-100 to the Canton Charge on Friday night in front of 3,913 fans at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.

Grand Rapids, the affiliate of the Detroit Pistons, loses on back-to-back nights and falls to 21-26. Canton (29-17) wins the season series 4-2. The Drive won the first two games between the teams, then dropped the next four.

Ismael Romero continues to provide a boost of energy off the bench for the Drive.

Romero, a 6-foot-8 native of Cuba, missed the first 17 games of the season with an injury. He had nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds on Friday. Romero has made the most of his playing time after former Drive big man Henry Sims signed a 10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets. In his last five games, Romero is averaging 15 points and 10.4 rebounds. Overall, he's averaging 5 points and 4.6 rebounds. He had a career-high 24 points on Thursday at Erie.

Dahntay Jones scored 16 of his 18 points in the first half for the Drive. He was followed by Bruce Massey (14), Kelsey Barlow (12) and Kam Holsey (10).

Grand Rapids trailed by 12 at halftime, but went on a 12-2 run to start the third quarter to cut the score to 72-69. But that's as close as the score would get in the second half.

Jones had the hot hand in the first half. He scored 16 points as the Drive trailed 67-55 at halftime. The 67 points are the second most Grand Rapids has given up in a half this season.

C.J. Wilcox drained four 3-pointers and had a team-high 19 points for the Charge.

Grand Rapids returns home to host the Raptors 905 for their last two home games of the season. The Drive play Monday and Wednesday for 7 p.m. starts at the DeltaPlex Arena and close out their season on the road at Sioux Falls on Saturday night.
